The
Association for Service Disabled Veterans (ASDV) has intensified
and expanded its mission to assist service disabled and prisoner
of war veterans (SDV), by establishing programs to provide employment
and work therapy opportunities for in-patient and out-patient
disabled veterans.
Service disabled and prisoner of war veteran owned and operated
businesses will be developing private and public sector contracts
and procurements that will be targeted to maximum utilization by
severely handicapped veterans as a rehabilitation support strategy.
The program will be coordinated with university and community
college small business development centers (SDBC), The National
Veterans Corporation (TVC), the Ability One Organization and other
sources of disabled persons and disability programs.
Surveys
of rehabilitation facilities and human resources, indicate that
a valuable source of intellect and skill resides in the nation's
physically disabled veteran population. Much of this skill and
proficiency was developed by the superb training received during
active military service, impacted by traumatic sacrifice for
our nation.
Service Disabled Veterans Rehabilitation (SDVR), a non-profit
affiliate, operates the program.
I. "THE OBJECTIVE" OF
THE COMPREHENSIVE REHABILITATION OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM (CROP) is to provide experience,
training and education for Service Disabled and Prisoner of War
Veterans (SDV) and other Disabled Persons(DP) that will enable
these persons to achieve economic participation in the society.
II. "THE
METHOD" by which this is
accomplished is by a program of "MANAGED EMPLOYMENT" and "SELF
EMPLOYMENT" experience.
- Managed Employment is work experience obtained
through the performance of on-the-job duties and training in
a rehabilitation directed but real work requirements, dictated
by contractual obligations to produce goods and services to
public and private clients. This program is operated by Service
Disabled Veterans Rehabilitation (SDVR).
- Self-Employment is a combination of orientation
and training, following work experience in managed employment
where technical expertise was acquired. Upon successful evaluation,
the SDV receives financial assistance, marketing (procurement)
assistance and continuing technical assistance while entering
the marketplace. This program is operated by the Association
for Service Disabled Veterans (ASDV).
III. "THE
RESOURCES" supporting these
activities are made available by the cooperation of the nation's
leading government and corporate organizations under
the direction of Service Disabled Veterans Comprehensive Rehabilitation
Opportunities Program (SDV/CROP).
